Yesterday was a banner day for us after such a long time of being under the gun…watching the clock and worrying about things we should have just dealt with and taken with a grain of salt. We left the house at 9:00 AM and started our trek to Vermont with a cooler for our cheeses, figuring to pick them up at the factory as usual, pack then in the ice chest and dine in Greenwich somewhere before continuing to the County Fair Grounds just outside of Greenwich. We got the cheese and drove north on Vermont RT 7 to Arlington and cut across to Cambridge, NY where we stopped at “Over the Moon Beads” on main street. The owner told us of a great place to eat on the way to the fair, called “Green Acres”, near the traffic circle in Greenwich, so we stopped there for a great lunch. This little pub has been there since 1942 and we never noticed it before. We WILL go back when we’re in that area.
Leaving there it was just a hop, skip and a jump to the fair grounds, just beyond Middle Falls. We must have walked more yesterday than I had since getting my knee replaced…and I think I did quite well, walking miles, considering the walk to and from the parking lot, and all around the fair grounds. I must admit that I was more than ready to plop into the car seat and turn on the A/C once we were there and a kind gentleman picked us up in a golf cart for the last 100 yards to the car. I must have looked rather pitiful, because he was driving across lanes when he saw us and turned around to come and ask if he could take us further on the cart. (What a life saver at that point)…It was a fabulous day and we took the Northway back to Albany and then the thruway to Coxsackie coming home. I think it was a little out of our way, going into Schuylerville and then on to Saratoga Springs to catch the Northway, but it was a fast, pleasant, easy ride rather than doing all the little towns to Troy and then driving on the nasty 787 raceway during rush hour, passing right past Albany proper. The longer route was great and we were home in good time.
When we pulled into the driveway, I immediately commented to Vick, starting with, “Oh my God…look at that!” There before us was a pair of Guinea Fowl that were outside the fenced area of the barnyard. Nothing new about that…but with these two were approximately twenty day old poults. They were scurrying about like little cockroaches when the light was turned on! Below are pictures of our day…and the new family we returned to. We’re still awaiting the arrival of new turkey chicks soon too…but the remaining baby turkey is now best friends with Terrance, its daddy.

There's nothing better than the fair!!!! All the yummy food smells that make your mouth water, the rides that I refuse to go on because they make me sick just watching them, and the wonderful exhibits. Your pics of all the delivery trucks are very neat. Takes you back to a very different way of life.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, great pics and I love your little chicks, they are so cute in the "fuzzy" stage of life! Thanks for sharing your day!
