The Days Come And Go…But The Routine Is The Same…

The Days Come And Go…But The Routine Is The Same…
Many things have transpired since last I wrote. Some are news and some are the same old drudge…Well, it’s like they say…some things change and other will always remain the same! We’ve been working on the small stuff right along with the new and exciting things since the last post. We are much closer to having a new donkey baby (sometime) and I cut the feeder down by a foot, so the donkeys and lambs we will be getting the end of May or June will be able to feed from it without ruining their fiber. It keeps them from immersing their entire head into a round bale of hay by dispensing loose hay through closely placed bars. (they only get small mouthfuls at a time) I still need to weld the base back to the top section as I simply cut a 12” piece out of the middle. I’ll do that on a dry day.

The cottage was delivered yesterday and is in place and looking great. It is very quaint and once finished, will be a joy to have. We will need to finish the inside and furnish it to be ready for painters and fiber artists to use…and we will enjoy resting there to read, write, spin yard or just fish from time to time. There will be two hanging beds, a table and chairs, a ceiling fan, lights and receptacles for a computer with WIFI available. We are installing a small bathroom with a bio-toilet accessible from inside the cottage for those nature calls in the middle of the night. It will be nice and finished soon…

The pad was ready and waiting....

We are still finding newly hatched poults almost every day in the turkey brooding room. We are now up to eight new birds with another bunch of eggs in the incubator. We check and turn them several times a day…just as the mother would as she awaits their arrival. If they all live, it will increase our flock to a dozen birds right now. Some are bound to be gobblers, so they will be put up for sale. We only want the three gobblers we now have. Any new ones go up for sale.

The spinning wheel goes on the side burner in lieu of all the above, but that’s okay…I want to take my time and engineer everything as I go anyway. That way I can continue to make a quality wheel more rapidly and consistently when I do begin to sell them. When I go to the basement to work, I do some work on the spinning wheel and some work on the other fiber tools too. Right now I am making another two sets of fiber combs to replace the ones I sold. We’re never bored here on the Cluckin’ “A” Critter Farm!

This will be the mainframe of the spinning wheel....
This is a cover. It hides the adjuster slot for the drive band....
 The finished flywheel...
The beginning of two sets of fiber combs....
Vick doesn't let any grass grow under her feet either...her new project under way...

Vick has been busy as well...planting flowers on the rear deck, working in the garden and around the little garden pond, as well as spinning and doing stained glass work. She is constantly going!
