Saturday, January 08, 2011...Snow Removal Fills The Day With Fun and Games...
This morning I worked on our QuickBooks account of the farm, which can make your eyes cross in reasonably short order. I am in the process of setting up the account properly after getting “an accounting 101 class” from Robin, our neighbor who is a professional accountant. With her help, I am slowly repairing and amending the program to work properly with the push of a button. It is a really quick way to keep books......either right or wrong. It doesn’t matter to the program, It simply runs the figures you put in, wherever you put them in......but it works best if you have the correct accounts set up when you start inputting data receipts of your income and expenses.
After going cross eyed for several hours, I went out and fed and watered the critters and began dealing with the snow. I must say the tractor works extremely well after having it gone over last week. I suppose that having the 50% of the hydraulic oil back in the tractor instead of on the ground was one reason it ran smoother. The other thing I like is that since they replaced the diesel fuel line that was spraying fuel....the tractor runs a lot longer on a tank of fuel. The bucket is extremely smooth and fast now and I can clear snow like gang busters!
When I finished the snow removal, we jumped into the car and went to the grocery store for a few items to make a delicious dinner. We invited Linda to stay for dinner when she arrived to pick up Winston, her big male golden retriever, which we had been “Puppy sitting”.
Earlier in the afternoon, Vick was snapping pictures of the dogs as they ran and played in the snow, creating a great photo shoot for Vick. I had called her on my cell phone to come out and shoot a few pictures of the mad, mad, winter skies behind the barn...peeking through the trees. Seldom do you see such a nasty, mad looking winter sky, but today...for a few minutes, it was there for all to see. Obviously there was an extremely heavy snow fall occurring toward Earlton or down in Coxsackie, causing the extremely darkened sky. Look below at the pictures of Snavely Mill, Winston and Casey Mae playing in the snow. You will see Callie, one of our three cats accompanying Vick, as she took the pictures. You can see Iggy and Luke watching both her and the weather, while enjoying their everyday lifestyle in the pasture, outside the barn.
And now....you can enjoy pictures while we retire for the night.....
What a mad looking winter sky...
