Well, looks like we might not dodge the snow bullet this time.... Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey and New York, through Long Island, into Boston are slated for a bundle again, and we might get some too. Then again, we may not too. We'll see, NewYork is to get 6 - 9 inches.
We spent today, working on the web site and new pages for the farm products and Items page. We are getting ready to step up our on-line advertising for the sales of chickens, ducks, turkeys and eggs, along with the Alpaca and Angora fibers. There will be a page for the Hospice items and woven or knitted farm sales items too. We have to maintain a certain income to retain farm status for the LLC.
As soon as things slow for us a little and we find an extra $300.00, we will be finalizing the 501 C-3 applications which I filled out last summer and will be like a ping pong game with the feds. We are also faced with limited funds right now needed to finish up the hospice gift shop, but it seems that just when you stop and wonder where the money is going to come from...something unexpected shows up. That happened with the lumber costs last summer. A long forgotten account rendered a check in the amount of the $1500.00 which was needed for the lumber! It just appeared in the mail one day. The same thing will happen somewhere along the line for the remainder of the expenses. Something seems to always happen when we need it to.
Another thing we did today was to pick a bit more of Bollero's fiber and I ran it across the carding machine, making roving bats for Vick to spin. We did several of Luke's white fiber too, so she can blend the two together. We cannot find Iggy's fiber in the Wilson house. We are thinking we sold a large amount of it last spring and then took a bunch to Athens to learn how to hand felt. I think we left the remainder for Donna to use in her felting projects. Oh well, it will only be another three months and we will be shearing the three boys again. It won't be long before Monsta Girl, the one giant Angora we have will have fiber around 3½ to 4 inches long. We will then harvest that beautiful fiber to blend in with Bollero or Luke's fibers, giving them a little gray with the white or brown. Fluff ball Girl is almost ready to be shorn also. We'll keep the processing going so we can have processed roving in bags, ready to spin, rather than the raw fiber we now have.
We are using the loom to weave scarves in our spare time, but I gotta get the web site in order so we can take credit card orders over the internet, so I will be dedicating a lot of time to that. Jeeze... I gotta do a little cleaning in the barn too...... another good reason I hope the bulk of the snow passes us this time.
