Tuesday, April 27, 2010... The Duckies Are Hatching Slowly...Very Slowly......
It seems like the ducks have been hatching forever! We videoed a few clips of them in the shell, their little beaks working and moving around. They all appear to be yellow, so I guess they are the Pekin eggs our neighbor brought for us to hatch out. Hopefully, we will have duckies under the brooding lamps tomorrow. They will be good company for the chicks already occupying the brooding box next to where they will go. It will be nice to have little guys running around the brooding house again and we will order our turkeys soon, so I need to get the turkey house at least started. The meat bird chickens will arrive around three to four weeks from now. That will be a new venture for us this year too. They are the Cornish Cross, which are large roasters or broilers.... The turkeys will be ready within eight weeks of receipt for sale, so we're timing it for around the holidays. Oh Boy!!!! Free range, all natural fed birds, browsing on our grass and bugs all summer long. They will be very healthy and delicious. Well, I guess we can hang it up until tomorrow's sun drifts over the horizon. In the mean time, Enjoy Vicki's latest water color painting. I think she has really mastered watercolor. How about you guys?
