Wow...the weather is knocking everyone on their butts all up and down the eastern coastal areas, all the way inland as far as us here in the capital district of New York. There is widespread flooding and worse predicted for later today, before the water from all the rain subsides. People south of us, along the Hudson, are going to have major problems as all this rain tries to traverse along the rivers normal course. Most assuredly, it will flood far beyond the confines of the rivers banks to cause widespread damage from those flooding conditions.
Tomorrow is Greenville day and we have a huge order of cheese to pick up in Bennington Vermont, then fruit and whatever other things we can get at our usual orchard stop near Eagles Bridge and then on to Greenwich, to pick up an order of Maple Syrup awaiting us there. The problem is...that they are talking about several of the avenues of travel to get to those things, being closed to flooding!
We are also expecting visitors from Pennsylvania this evening late also, but I don’t know if they will have trouble getting here or not either. They would be traveling interstates all the way until Coxsackie, where they would exit and run 9W to 81, and then north to Greenville. I don't know what to tell them.......
The Pupskill lake pond bay and river stream is flooded badly, which means the water is obviously running over the road where the Pupskill crosses route 35. People are slowly driving through the torrent flowing across the road, which is pretty dangerous, because you never know when the water is undercutting the earth on both sides of the pipe under the road, until it is too late and it all collapses and washes out. Even after the roadway is gone, you cannot tell that there is a huge void under the torrential overflow, which can easily swallow your car... with you in it! Pressure from a torrent of water like that...can push your car right off the roadway, into the rushing, swirling, chocolate rage of water on the downstream side of the roadway, completely submerging you and your car.
Now we must decide if we will try to make the trip into Vermont and northern New York for our usual pickup of product or not...and tomorrow is slated to be a big event in Greenville too.
What to do....What to do????????????????????????
