Today started early with a visit from our Vet to Isabelle’s farm to perform some routine animal care for our Guiseppe and Isabelle’s, Max the Llama, but the main event was the gelding of Rafiki.....Our friend's little red headed boy which we gave to her as a gift. The vet performed the gelding, shots and hoof trimming and then moved to Max for dental work. After that, she went to work on Guiseppe, but was momentarily stalled with a kick to the face, requiring a moment to gather our wits again and place a band-aid on a cut that was inflicted by his hoof during his kick. It’s amazing how quickly they can strike and it brings to our attention just how dangerous these fluffy mooing loves can be, changing in an instant. They are large animals, capable of dangerous outbursts of energy which can injure or kill a person in an instant, if they leave their guard down and don’t know the animal well. We are guilty of cuddling and coddling our boys, allowing our animals to mistakenly feel equal to us rather than subservient before us, thus maintaining our superiority over them...and that is dangerous. We have to quit having close, intimate, loving contact with them and re-establish ourselves as the dominant creature in their lives, before we invite disaster for us or our alpacas. We have some pictures below of the vet working on Max, Guiseppe and Rafiki and you can “CLICK HERE” for one link to the video of the gelding operation Vick took and then “CLICK HERE” for the video of the dental work on Guiseppe. Aside from the kicking of the vet, everything went well with the visit and afterwards, Isabelle, our friend, Vick and I all went to Paul’s for lunch. We then headed home to grab the pickup and head to Appleby’s for feed. Tomorrow we have a doctor’s appointment and maybe we’ll go to Fultonham for corn. Later in the week, we’ll go to Altamont to pick up a post hole digger for the Cub. Then I can get busy digging and planting posts all over the farm! After the first of the month, we’ll head to East Berne for our lumber and build a run in shelter for the alpacas and possibly the lumber for the barn expansion, so we can get cracking on that too.

On a very sad note....we were informed late this afternoon, that our friend Alfredo passed away today during an operation. Our hearts and condolences go out to his family, his wife and our friend, Audrey. We will all miss Alfredo............
