Wednesday, March 9th.... Those Lousy Steps Into Spring...Up Two...Back One...

In the month of March, the amount of snow across the country and amount of cold days step down, but never on a straight line. A few days of warmth is usually followed by a day of cold and snow. As the month progresses, the amount of cold and snow are finally outweighed by the warmth, though snow can still fall. The only good thing is that during the month of March......the snow comes today and can melt by tomorrow. That’s a welcome change to what we’ve become familiar with over the last several months...where snow comes and stays, for what seems an eternity. Although we are all rooting for spring to win out in this up and down battle, we must keep in mind that spring does not occur until March 21st, which is almost two weeks away. In the mean time, there will be more snowy steps than warm, rainy steps.....BUT, we are moving toward that shift where they will soon meet in the middle and begin going the other way.

Here’s a bit of good news......This Sunday morning at 2:00Am, remember to turn your clock ahead an hour. Now that’s a treat for us in the spring. We immediately get an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day, but when you get up at 6:00AM, it will darker than it is now... Who cares if it is dark when we get up? It will remain daylight until almost 7:00PM. COOL....summer approaches on the heels of spring....I love it!

Yesterday we stopped at Tip Top Furniture in Freehold and talked to Kathy, one of the sales people there about what we were doing in the gift shop and that we needed a cabinet for our checkout counter/storage area for computer supplies and bags. We also talked about flooring, which we will need very shortly. Today we will stop there and meet with the sales lady in flooring. Kathy said she would fill her in on our needs so she is familiar when we arrive. Later in the day, we went to Home Depot and purchased the lumber for the trim around the door and windows. We will still need the hanger strips, which will go the whole way around the building walls, giving you a place to hang the artwork and pictures without driving nails into the wooden wall surface. Little metal hooks will clip over the edge of these strips and your artwork hangs from wires, easily adjustable and removable.

Yesterday was a nice day for the chickens and ducks to be out roaming and browsing about. The ducks are hearty and walk on the ice if they cannot find an open section to swim in, which is evidenced by the video below. They just love being out to run about and quack at each other.

The chickens...... hmmmmm, the chickens seem to enjoy being out, but all browse on their own terms, finally ending up in a huddle in a warm corner somewhere the sun is shining. They seem to venture out, one at a time to peck and scratch around, then go back to join the cuddle group. The Guineas however seem to keep together in a group everywhere they go. As you will see from the YouTube video Vick shot. The guineas travel together and squawk together too.

When we return from Tip Top Furniture, we will go into the gift shop, build a little fire, turn on the music and start to put up the finish trim we bought at Home Depot last evening and really bring out the beauty of the finished product. Everything we do in the gift shop now, is like turning a giant spotlight on. It makes such a difference in the appearance of the room, unlike the weeks of laborious work we performed previously, where we worked all day long, but when we stepped back to see the progress, there was nothing new that stood out. That was a very depressing time in building. Now, everything we do adds to the glitter of the project, making it fun to perform.

We are still pretty sure we can shoot for a May opening. It’s nice to see the Catskill chapter of the Hospice and Palliative Care unit as excited as they have become. Steve Manny is in constant touch with Vick, and their person in charge of advertising and the media is now calling and emailing. It’s getting exciting.
If it sounds like we have...or are forgetting any of you out there, which have aided in getting us this far...please know that you are never forgotten. We appreciate all your help and offer an open invitation to come see the building, volunteer to help, advocate for Nature’s Friend’s of Hospice, Inc. or the actual Hospice and Palliative Care Program of New York State.
We’re all in this together you know......
