Sunday, June 10th... To All There Is A Season...To Some A Rhyme And Reason...

Time marches on..... Even though we still mourn the loss of Rafiki, one of our male alpacas, we forge on with life. We have the scaffolding in place and the window on the eastern side of the house installed. Now I must finish the wood trim around the outside and the inside and it will be complete. I’ll finish the outside today and move the scaffolding to the west side to replace that window and complete the outside wood trim there. Once that is completed, the scaffolding can go back to Windham Rental. The inside trim can be finished without scaffolding, so the urgency is outside before we get deluged with rain.
We have employed Mike, a strapping young lad of fifteen to perform some of Vick’s landscaping tasks outside. I will also use his help to repair the beaver dam at the lake too. I can stand mid-stream and have him bring me the blocks to place, saving my knees from trudging across the stream and to the block pile...and carrying them back to place them. We should be able to make the repair in less than an hour with his help.
I’ll leave this post with a few pictures of the window replacement on the east side...which I will attack first, then a photo of the old window on the west...and finally, a picture of the damage to the breast of the dam. I’ll follow up with a picture of the repair later.....
I just called my Father in Pennsylvania, where he lives in an assisted living home. He has trouble with his big toe and sugar....so we all know where that is leading. Yesterday, my brother called to say that Dad has a blood clot somewhere in the toe, foot or leg and they are treating it with medicine now, but may have to amputate something tomorrow, after the regular doctors are back from their weekend.
I hope the medicine dissolves the clog, but who knows how much trouble there will be with what the clot has starved and killed in the mean time...........
There are so many things changing on a daily basis.....
Vick has here muscular problems with her back and I have mine with my knees...my Dad’s foot....her Dad’s health...the problems of the animals here on the farm and it’s all constantly changing. One must keep in mind that...To all there is a season. It just seems we are all in the fall of our seasons.... That’s not something to be depressed about, as we are all blossomed and enjoying our lives. We simply have to expect a few gloomy days every now and then, as life marches on toward the harvest. It should be a time for celebrating and experiencing, for we have made the trek thorough life and can now enjoy our labors. Sure we have a few sore knees, fingers, toes and such.....but we earned all those aches and pains by the fine job we performed in life. A rest awaits us before stepping into another dimension and continuing on with our next life of learning and experiencing God’s finest.
Below are the pictures.....Enjoy
Window is in and trim is going on.....

The old, stained window....too cloudy to see through
Without the scaffolding.....IMPOSSIBLE!

voilà....The finished product....

Window on West side.....

Time to begin the replacement....
The replaccement windown for the west side....

The lake is really low from the broken dam.....

You can see the muddy edges....

Here you can see the damage on the left side....

The water is usually going over the center, six inches above....

Another view of how low the water is.....
Remember this waterline when the dam is fixed.....

The new turkey run being built....
Wooden fencing, wire, gates & a slide gate under the window....
Maybe even another shed for adults & the poults in this building..

  1. Great post Skip and Vicki! I was actually online looking for landmark windows when I found your article. It really sounds and looks like your home improvements are going great. Thank you for sharing this with us!
