Busy, Busy…We’re All Busy…Christmas Is But Five Away…

Yeah, I know. Don’t yell at me…cause you’re just as busy as me and running like a chicken with your head cut off…running on empty to get ready fer Ol’ Saint Nick too!!! Come on...admit it!

I’ll reiterate as I have every year past; that it drives me crazy to run on empty every day for two solid weeks, getting ready for Christmas and it is a fleeting memory within eighteen hours of midnight December twenty fifth every year!

Anyway, we’ve been ripping and tearing around trying to get everything done, which takes me away from my writing and the blog. I am still working on three books at the same time, which I fear will never be completed. (Even though two are actually done except for editing and prepping for Kindle and Nook) I have four books on Amazon’s site which can be purchased right now and will be adding the other three as they are completed and released. The four there now are my “Poetry from the heart”, “All you need to know to start selling on eBay”, “A family tradition and The Do-it-yourself home electrical repair manual”. I have sold quite a few of each book this past year and look forward to adding three more titles.

I will be adding “It all started with a puppy, our uncommon journey”, “Life in the Barrens world” and another fictional novel not yet named. It is a task that seems like a journey that will never come to be, but I whittle away at it, little by little.

Last Tuesday we went to Washington County to meet the guy with the wood lathe. We drove in the snow all the way up and back home without incident. The man and his wife were quite nice and have alpacas and a small farm too, so dealing with them was like working with an old friend. After loading the lathe and parts into the car, we went to the Burger Den for a late lunch, after which we began our trek homeward in the snow. I will need to make a table for the lathe, mount the motor on a hinge plate and add 4”x4” legs on a 2’ by 4’ by ¾” thick piece of plywood. I ordered a new tail stock chuck for the center which will arrive soon. I will then be able to begin turning spindles to begin making spinning wheels. ANOTHER PROJECT in the making!!!

The farm and fiber shop is beginning to take off since the ad in the local paper has been running for a few weeks. We sold a bunch of alpaca gloves and some maple syrup today, along with two herbal sachets. The paper and word of mouth advertising is starting to bring more and more people in. I took some pictures of the stocked shelves this morning and when you look at them, I think you will agree it looks pretty darned full now. We will soon be selling bulk honey too. It will be a “bring your own container and save some money” proposition. We will still sell some readily available one pound jars for those who don’t want to be bothered too.

There is now a light on the sign mounted on the end of the building so people can see it as they drive by at night. It is certainly an “eye grabber” that brings attention to the fact that we are here and open. It turns on at dusk and is on a timer that shuts the light off at around eleven thirty at night.

I’m sure it will be a positive tool in bringing in customers.

  1. Loved our visit to the store - and the company wasn't half bad either! Have a very Merry Christmas, and I hope to see you both again soon!
