Last night after returning from the hospice program, we went to the barns to check on everything and found the chickens in the old coop very contented and sitting in 40 degrees along with the ducks and Philip, the pheasant…… who enjoyed the same 40 degrees. Now the other barn was different. In there it had dropped to 30 degrees…… still not bad for being open at the top and having an outside temperature of 9 degrees. Still, we need to do something to change the temperature in there besides cranking up heat lamps, which we are now using… I think a way of closing off the loft would help until we can close off the soffit up there. Maybe closing off the stairway with a hinged door or something would be the answer…… and then some foam, celotex insulation board up against the perlins of the roof above the bunnies in the stall area and more above the hen house would keep more of the heat in and cold out. We have more work to do inside the barn plus add some lighting outside the barn so we can see at night and Vick wants to get this done before the holidays, so I guess keeping it warmer in there would be prudent for us too. We’ll see how it goes. Surely there is something we can do to make it better.
Less than a week until Thanksgiving……. Boy how the time is flying.
We’ve received our invitation from Robin, my sister-in-law, the wife of Vick’s brother, Richie and we replied, of course we were planning on coming over for the holiday. We have spent every Thanksgiving with them since we have been here. Usually we have them over here for Christmas and I don’t foresee any change this year unless the weather is bad.
