I gotta tell you that it's a crime that such a nice place as quaint and lovely as the Freehold House restaurant in Freehold, New York is suffering such a fate as to face closure because of poor business. I believe it is merely a case of poor management because it appears that everyone has to wait a long time for the meals and drinks, although the one waitress we had, (on New Years Eve... believe it or not of all evenings) was not really that busy all the time, we wondered why they were so under staffed. Possibly the problem stems from a slow kitchen staff and extends out into the dining area and the one waitress. Who knows, but everything was delicious and it is a sad vision that they may have to close.

My meal was excellent and consisted of the following: Crostini with Tapenade, Pesto & Sun Dried Tomato Mascarpone, Cream of Winter Green with Crème Fraiche, Surf & Turf (Filet Mignon and Lobster) and Blushing Pears, topped of with a bottle of Beringer's White Zinfandel wine for the table. Everyone else's meals were wonderful, as well.

Vick's parents enjoyed them selves, as did Vick and myself...and we always enjoy the company of dear friends Stanley and Joyce.
Here is a short history of the Freehold House and a picture of it.

Nestled in the small, quaint hamlet of Freehold, Freehold House Restaurant has served for parts of 4 centuries as a destination for hospitality and good memories. The House was originally built in 1795, and served as a welcoming Inn to travelers. Over time, additions were made to the original structure, which have contributed to its rich history and beautiful appearance.
In the 1800’s it was known by names such as Freehold Hotel & Freehold House as it was cared for by the Hunt and Parks Families. Dr. Parks was the builder of the Carriage House next to the House, which now serves as an elegant catering venue. Over time, and with the passing of another century, the House saw other names, such as the Olde Country Inn. It also saw changes in its patrons, as it was turned into a Tavern, and no longer a boarding house. The Lawlors and Van Beusichems were part of the House’s history in the 20th century. In the 1990’s the House underwent a major renovation by the Buels and was reopened as a fine-dining restaurant, The Freehold Country Inn.Now, as this building’s history continues, it returns to one of its original names, Freehold House. With the history that comes with its name, and a new family to enjoy all it has to offer, it will no doubt again serve as a destination for many, and a place to make memories for another century.

If you are from the area or aren't too far from Freehold, New York, I'd recommend dining here as soon as possible, that way you will be able to sample the exquisite cuisine, see the beautiful decor and possibly help increase their income to keep them open. Tell all your friends too.

We've decided that since it is so warm and nice out today, that Vick and I would install several receptacles and the lights in the barn loft today. There won't be much, just two ceiling lights and several service receptacles. It will make retrieving a bale of hay in the winter evenings much easier when we can see up there. After completing that, we will probably just relax and enjoy New Years day.
