We are really on schedule despite all the problems we've had with Lyme disease these past few months. The turkey house should be close to done soon; (maybe today if it doesn't rain too hard) which is good, because the buggers in the brooding house are ready to be in their new house already. They are big enough that they keep trying to escape their confines relentlessly, all day long. It is becoming very hard to feed them and change the watering can, because they continue to fly up at you when you reach through the screen to so anything.
We already moved the ducks to the playpen in the center section of the barn where they will slop and quack happily away, until they are big enough to be turned loose with the rest. The Pekin ducks, which were in the playpen last week, have now been turned loose into the pasture where they share the inside and outside barn space with the one adult turkey we have and the alpacas and sheep. Everyone there is happy. We do have to separate them for feeding though, because the sheep are hogs.....simply stated.....HOGS...PIGS...they will push right into anything, anywhere and eat like hogs until it is all gone, while the other animals look on in disbelief!!!!! (Us too) We simply close the doors with the Pekin ducks inside the stable area and Tina the turkey in the barn entry, leaving the alpaca and sheep in the pasture until the little guys all eat their pellets, then we turn the duckies and turkey out into the pasture for their water, (two kids plastic swimming pools) and then feed the alpaca and sheep. While they are eating, we then turn all the chickens and Guinea fowl loose to eat and get into everything all day long. This is the sequence that keeps things flowing smoothly on the farm and keeps the ducks, chickens and Guineas happy and laying lots of eggs. In awhile, we should start to see Guinea fowl eggs start appearing again. I believe we have three couples with about 34 keets, unless they all mingle together and watch each others young. I've personally seen three pairs...one pair with ten keets, one pair with nine keets and yesterday, a pair with fifteen. We've seen two pairs, with their young feeding and picking bugs together.....all four adults mingling about the young, but never saw a pair without their young and another couple taking care of all the young....I don't think, anyway..... SO, perhaps we do have 34 keets out there. That would be cool to have as many young as adults.........
Boy, the Pupskill Bay Lake Pond Stream Inlet is really low..... Worse than I have ever seen it before! Last time it was low, I mentioned the fish sneaking up to the house at night to get the garden hose to refill the pond.....remember? I said I probably wouldn't have caught them in the middle of the night had the window not been open and I heard two bass giggling as they stole the water? We it is so bad now, they brazenly come in groups during the day and two big suckers watch as the bass steal the water hose. Say anything and the big suckers will wade right in on you! Even the Guinea group, which usually run the underfarm, don't mess with these guys, saying "We jus dun want no trouble....ya's know what we mean?
I told Vick to just come in the house when they come this way from the pond....It ain't worth the stink that these guys can inflict on the farm!
The flowers on the rear deck scream all night long for water too. It's like standing next to the Wailing Wall all night long. Sometimes I think I would be further ahead to get out of bed and squirt them down, but then who can sleep through the celebration when they sing and dance as they drink? You just can't win sometimes!

Wow...It's so low the fish are walking. Seriously, I'm glad it's 16' deep in the center......
