Twas a long ride...Twas a nice ride... Twas a thing to behold without snow!!!!! Last year if you remember, we had cancelled our visit to see my Dad because of snow about this time in November, and waited for another chance without snow. Things were a bit fickle through early December and finally we decided on the weekend before Christmas. Now...if you remember right, there was a nasty, heavy, intimidating snow storm progressing across the Ohio River valley at the time, but we were determined to make the trip, even if the snow storm tracked far enough north to engulf us! They were getting record snowfalls in Tennessee and other southern states that would occasionally get a dusting, to an inch of snow all winter and as we made our way west...the snow storm was making it's way east and we met on I-80 at Danville, Pa. The further we went, the more it snowed and the more the snow piled up on the road. When we drove the remaining 145 mile ride, which should have taken 2 hours.....we made it to our destination in four hours and there was six inches of snow on the ground. This time, we had sunny skies and warm temperatures for the trip. Our entire trip this time took us 4¾ hours total. We stopped several places shopping for specialty foods and items we cannot get at home and then took a room at the Quality Inn in Burnham. After dropping our ″luggage and other items, we headed to State College to visit and then to Huntingdon to see my Dad and his new wife. We visited there for a few hours and then headed to relatives for the evening. When it became late, we headed for the motel and a soft warm bed. In the morning, we had breakfast and made a stop for pastries and gas, before heading home. We made the trip straight from Lewistown to Greenville in 4 hours and 50 minutes with two ten minute stops along the way.
Quite a difference to the 11 hour trip last December when we drove in a foot of snow on I-80 most of the way. Occasionally, you would follow a tier of diagonally snowplows, which were arranged in a staggered line all across the interstate, moving at 10MPH, insuring a span of ten miles between exits would be an hour ride. This happened three times to us, delaying our late night drive home. This time it was a breeze and a pleasure...in only 4¾ hours.... Below are a few pictures we took of things we saw......when we remembered to take pictures.....

Today, we will be going to the Franklin String quartet and box lunch Concert at the Carriage House of the Green dish at the Freehold Inn at 1:00PM.

This concert is part of. The Wolf Fly Festival is presented by "All arts Matter", located in Greenville and is part of their yearly planned social arts curriculum, which usually runs out of the church beside the library. This is the first "off site" performance I am aware of since we've been living up here. Just last week, we attended a two play performance in the church, entitled "Mushrooms" which was a locally written and performed play about lust and murder, and then a Broadway play, entitled "I'm Herbert". This play was a play about an elderly couple trying to reminisce about their lives, keeping events of their marriage separated from previous relationships without the help of dementia.
We will take Vick's parents to see the Franklin String Quartet and have the box lunch as a treat to spending the weekend here house sitting and visiting.....
