Friday was one of the coldest days this year so far....with temperatures at 1 below zero at six in the morning; I didn't stray far from the fireplace until it warmed up a little. There was an unusual amount of ash and soot in the fire pot, which impeded the heating ability, so I shut it down and cleaned it, removing all the ashes and starting anew. That raised the temperature in the house dramatically in about an hour of heating time. After that, I took to the barn to fight the freezing temperature there and pulled out all the heated buckets. The next day was spent getting water buckets going that would not freeze. We had to pick up a bucket heater at Appleby's farm supply and dig the one out of the basement. Vick found one hanging in the duck house from last year, so we let the new one in the basement where it was. I need to install two temporary outlets in the bunny brothel to plug heated water bottles into in the back corner for Harry and BG. All the others were ok and the cords reached the receptacles. We won't use extension cords in the barn for water heaters.....Too Dangerous!!!!!

Saturday we spent the morning doing what needed doing with the animals, then around noon, we met with a new acquaintance to discuss cutting trees on Jiri and Erika's 12 acre woodlot. Jiri was here last weekend and marked all the trees he wants pushed over, uprooted and cut away. That will leave an area to build on which will be level with no stump or trees in the way. We decided that there would be mounds of earth in two areas that would have to be moved, to level the area the way Jiri wants it for building. It will be a considerable amount of earth, so we may have to cut more trees away to make a downhill swell away from the house and basement entrance. It looks like a two week job for an experienced excavator operator....provided there are no rock veins to contend with. Rock will require blasting and additional expense. We left from there and went to our friend Linda's house with a four foot tree for her and Vick helped her string lights and decorate it with her. She lives alone and enjoyed our company, the gift of the tree and helping to decorate it. Afterwards, we watched a movie and chatted until it grew dark enough to come home to put the animals in. We then had dinner at The Hollow Brook Restaurant with our other friend Lynda, while listening to the live entertainment of "The Rebound Boys."

Today...I think we will coast a little, and then work on the Christmas decorations of our own, install those temporary receptacles for Harry and BG bunnies, then install a thermostatically controlled heater in the egg stand so the products don't freeze this winter. It will require moving it to the other side of the driveway, next to the hospice gift shop porch. That should keep us busy for a while. I'll throw in a few pictures of "Cluckin' "A" Critter Farm" sunrises, the gift shop and whatever else we have in the camera from recent pictures........
