Friday, January 21, 2011... And Here We Go...In The Land Of The Snow.........

This morning we awoke to another chapter in the series of “The Land Of The Snow.” We must have gotten at least four inches of the new fluffy stuff and there are claims to possibly achieving two more inches before the snow subsides.
Well.........That’s what we expect here in the Great Northern Exposure of upstate New York. The snow is bad here....yes....but not nearly as bad as it is north of Albany and across into New England. They live snow up there. I don’t think I would like that amount of snow for that long, but it certainly is beautiful when you’re visiting. Imagine staying in a cozy little Inn like the Snow Goose Inn in West Dover. The Inn is nestled against the base of Snow Mountain, one mile from the main lifts. Just imagine staying there now for a few days, as the snow piles up around you everywhere. You awake and build a fire in your bedroom fireplace, shower, dress and amble down the stairs into the dining room where Cyndi and her staff has a full breakfast awaiting your arrival. After a large scrumptious breakfast, you can retire one of the two reading rooms, watch a DVD movie, listen to the music or lounge in your room in front of the fireplace. The surrounding countryside is chalked full of great stores, historical sites and lots of beautiful scenery. You can stay for a week and not fully discover everything there is to experience. Remember, we arrived on Friday evening, and departed on Sunday morning, spending a trifle for the experience of relaxing with someone else taking care of everything, and then serving wine and cheese at five in the afternoon, while we all sat and chatted about the days adventures. Vick and I decided that the Snow Goose Inn was to be one of our annual planned events in the future. We would love to spend a week there, enjoying the laid back life of New England, while being pampered by the Snow Goose Inn staff.
Here we live the same lifestyle, except we have no one to pamper us. We have the chores to do, the animals to feed and customers to please. But I wouldn’t trade our lifestyle for anything. If we lived daily as we do when we go to the Snow Goose Inn, I’m sure we would soon find the charm gone and we would not have that special enchanted vacation stay like we find in New England.
Hopefully, today we can spend some time in the gift shop after feeding and watering the animals. We have neglected to work in there for some time now and it’s time to get back under way in there. There are plenty of boards for me to install on the ceiling and Vick wants to finish cleaning the tiles and grout them to finish that up. Once it is completed, I can install the stove in its correct place and install the stove pipe and fire off the wood burner for the first time. Vick and I are looking forward to experiencing the little chunk stove’s heat in the building while we work to finish everything up and get the store ready to open in the spring. Times a wastin’ here and I need to get movin’.......so check back later for updated pictures of the gift shop, animals and the farm.
