The Oasis on the Rear Deck is Complete…For Now Anyway…

Yesterday we finished the rock placement and Vick did the staining of all the new boards and all the deck railing we installed a few years ago and never stained. We will need more stain to completely treat everything needing it, but not right now. We are into the mulch placement part now and once the dirt and fertilizer in inserted into the two black tubs, we will place all the plants and cover generously with mulch.
My hand (finger) grows better daily and I will soon be able to perform the motorization of our fiber carder and make the frame for Vick’s latest stained glass masterpiece entitled… “The Galaxy”.
I will also begin on the tractor shed we want to build to house the tractor, mower, post hole digger and boat. It will simply be an open building in the front, much like a run-in shed used for cattle. We simply want to shield these items from direct contact with the weather and elements.
Vick has been processing fiber left and right… She washes it, dries it and then picks it…finally running it across the carding machine to create a beautiful bat which she can spin from. Look at all the fiber and equipment sitting all over the kitchen…
The carding machine that makes the lovely bats.....

Here's the picker that opens the fiber for the carder...

The chickens and ducks have finally kicked in and are laying enough eggs to pay for their feed. That is a blessing we always embrace.....
Well this afternoon, after closing the gift shop, we took the trailer and went to Storey’s Nursery and picked up a half a yard of mulch to finish the deck project. It is finished until we pass the historical date of Mothers Day for being safe from frost nip on flowers. We strived to finish up all the flower beds and gardens to have them ready for planting once we pass that last day. We understand that flowers have been lost to frost here, even after Mother’s Day. That’s SAD! Sad but accustomed and expected here in upstate New York, so we accept it when it happens. Anyway, Vick finished the project and it looks GREAT!! Take a look.

We added the stone for the edging....

We finished the far end stonework too....

As I laid rock, Vick did the staining of new wood.....

Ready for the earth in the pans and the mulch on top....

We are going to replace the pump for more flow....

Finished Oasis project until we can plant flowers without frost.....
