Here We Go Again, From One To Another, The Months Are Changing…

Here it is the 30th of June and we are still working to finish up with what we’re doing. We’ve decided to forget about building a farm store, adding more to the farm which needs attention and upkeep…and we’ve decided to downsize our animal stock and concentrate on some meat birds, a few replacement layer chickens and building a nice flock of Royal Palm Heritage breed turkeys. We are mulling over in our heads what to do with the Hospice Gift shop, since we have little to no support from either the community or hospice themselves. The support we have is the un-ending support from a select few which have supported us from the very beginning and that are the donating artisans who stepped up in the beginning and have remained loyal to the cause.

The hospice program we support and raise money for does not even recognize us in their monthly newsletters or help spread the word that we are helping them, so the only advertising done for Nature’s Friends of hospice is by us and Andrea Macko, who owns and operates The Greenville Pioneer and runs a weekly add for free. At the rate we’re going, we can take the lighting cost, the other upkeep, insurance and the value of our time, add it up and send it to the hospice program and it would be more than we generate throughout the entire summer. We would no longer have to give up our weekends either… Sad, but why feed the dying horse?

Yesterday after opening the gift shop, I went to the barn and Vick went to a class with our friend Jordan Su in Colonie.

While Vick was gone, I cut and framed in two windows upstairs on either side of the doors. The day before that, Vick and I changed the swing of the doors from outward to inward, making the installation of the bard board boards an easy fix. Today we will put the windows on the back side of the barn.

After doing the windows yesterday, I replaced the wheel hub that Vick picked up on her way home and threw the new tire on. I pulled it to the barn area, put a chain around the leaf spring and using the tractor, flipped the trailer onto its side and removed the burnt wiring. I need grommets for the frame holes and then I can string the new wiring and install the lights and license plate. Then we will be ready for the road again after a can of black spray paint. Ahhh, Progress!
Here are a few pictures of that progress...
